This original fictional story follows a Jewish boy in 1940s and a Palestinian boy in late 1960s and how their lives intertwine in unexpected ways, ultimately connecting them to the events of 2023.
In 1944, approximately 6 million Jews had been killed as part of the Holocaust, which began in the early 1940s. That year was particularly brutal, as the Nazis intensified their mass extermination efforts.
After the 1967 Six-Day War, Palestinians responded with armed resistance, political mobilization, and guerrilla warfare:
On June 25, 2006, Palestinian militants captured Israeli soldier during a cross-border raid in Gaza. In response, Israel launched Operation Summer Rains on June 28, 2006, targeting Gaza’s infrastructure and militant positions to secure Shalit’s release. The operation involved airstrikes, ground incursions, and heavy fighting.
It is estimated that around 400 Palestinians were killed, including civilians and militants. Many of the civilian casualties were caused by airstrikes, artillery shelling, and ground incursions by the Israeli military. The operation resulted in significant destruction of infrastructure in Gaza, including homes, government buildings, and the power plant, which affected the civilian population heavily.
Ultimately, the film serves as a poignant reflection on the enduring legacy of conflict, emphasizing the need for empathy, understanding, and the breaking of cyclical patterns of violence for future generations.
It challenges audiences to confront the complexities of historical pain and the interconnectedness of human experiences across time.
